Bangkok Flooding Disrupts Airport Ground Operations and Delays Asian Games Teams

Flooding in Bangkok disrupted Thai Airways ground operations at Suvarnabhumi Airport, as some baggage handlers could not reach work and malfunctioning baggage carts further slowed luggage loading and unloading. Passengers faced flight delays and waits of up to six hours for baggage, with luggage from several flights left behind; the airport and airline said they were adding staff, repairing or replacing carts, and providing baggage updates and assistance. The disruption also delayed a flight carrying Thai athletes to the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya by nearly eight hours because their baggage and sports equipment could not be loaded. The flooding followed intense rainfall that inundated roads across Bangkok, though water levels began to recede as rain eased.
Thai Airways asked passengers whose luggage had not arrived to file a delayed-baggage report so the airline could track and deliver their belongings. The airport also deployed additional staff to passenger-service and baggage-claim areas to assist travellers.
Passengers seeking help could contact Thai Airways Lost and Found at 02-134-5453 to 55 for international flights or 02-134-5473 to 74 for domestic flights; the airline’s contact centre was available at 02-356-1111.
Bangkok’s Metropolitan Administration declared the capital a disaster-affected area after nearly 300 mm of rain fell in 48 hours. Although floodwater began receding as the rain eased, some residents remained stranded at home.
