Mother Reflects on Daughter Lost in Dawson College Shooting Twenty Years Later

On 13th September 2006, 18-year-old Anastasia De Sousa was killed when a gunman opened fire inside Dawson College’s cafeteria. At least 19 others were injured before the shooter was fatally shot by police. Her mother, Louise De Souda, still speaks to her daughter every day and struggles with the loss of her daughter. De Suda credits her ability to adapt and move on with the pain of losing Anastas. She is currently sharing her story with students in schools and hopes to encourage young people to support each other and recognize when someone may be struggling.
