Latest Smartwatches Broaden Options Across Battery Life, Medical Monitoring, and Repairability

Recent smartwatch options span repairable, long-lasting, medically focused and fashion-oriented designs. The Una Watch stands out for its $199 price, open-source software and hardware, user-replaceable battery, modular components and fitness features including dual-frequency GPS and continuous heart-rate tracking, though it is only splash-resistant. Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 emphasizes battery life, with an 800mAh cell and an estimated three and a half days of use in one reviewer’s experience. Huawei’s Watch D3 differentiates itself with an inflatable wrist cuff for ambulatory blood-pressure monitoring, a feature not offered by major rivals such as Apple, Google, Garmin or Samsung. For budget buyers, the Amazfit Bip 6 and Xiaomi Redmi Watch 5 offer advertised battery life of up to 14 and 18 days, respectively, although reported real-world performance is generally closer to a week or more. Fashion-focused models such as the Chrome Iris, boAt Ultima Vogue 2 and Chrome Horizon pair metallic, slimmer designs with health and activity tracking intended to transition from workwear to evening clothing.
Una says every component can be accessed with a standard tool, allowing owners to repair or upgrade the watch themselves and design or 3D-print custom accessories, such as converting it into a cycling computer.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2’s battery performance was helped not only by its 800mAh cell but also by the Snapdragon Wear Elite chip, which adds low-power Wi-Fi, newer Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support, faster clock speeds and improved graphics performance.
Huawei’s Watch D3 starts at £399, and the reviewer said its inflatable blood-pressure cuff is discreet when not in use and feels similar to a doctor’s arm cuff, though with slightly less squeezing.
The budget models differ in connectivity: the Amazfit Bip 6 includes built-in GPS and costs about $79, while the Xiaomi Redmi Watch 5 lacks GPS and costs just under $45.
The Chrome Iris is designed for day-to-night wear with an 8mm-thin metallic body, a 1,000-nit AMOLED display, 10 color options and interchangeable straps; it is priced at around ₹3,499.
