Kyle Larson Ends Winless Streak at Gateway As Denny Hamlin Maintains Standings Lead

Kyle Larson ended a 51-race winless streak in the Cup Series with a victory at Gateway, ending his all-around career. Despite a ninth-place finish and pit crew issues, Denny Hamlin maintained his lead in the Chase standings. This victory was largely attributed to the efforts of Larson's previously AWOL Hendrick Motorsports team and some overtime hours from the flag man. Despite being considered among the most talented all-round racers in North America, Larson had previously had more Cup Series championships (one) than he had Cup Series wins (zero). This win made Christopher Bell's 33-race victory look like a mild detour from Victory Lane. Despite finishing 19th in the top 10, Ryan Blaney finished 35th among the 36.
