Kate Gosselin broke her silence on TikTok this week, responding to fans urging her to sue her son Collin over his upcoming memoir. Why Kate Says She Cannot Take Collin to Court
One TikTok user told Kate to sue Collin for defamation. Kate pushed back, explaining that public figures face a much higher legal bar. Under a standard set by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1964, she would need to prove Collin knew his claims were false — or didn't care if they were. That is very hard to prove KATV.
Kate added that she had tried to consult a "high-power attorney" about the issue years ago, but was told the same thing. Her attorney, Richard Puelo, has stated he does not believe Kate "intentionally harmed any of her children in any way, shape or form" WACH.
A Decade of Family Fracture Behind the Book
The feud between Kate and Collin dates back to 2016. Kate enrolled Collin, then 12, in a behavioral health institution. He stayed there for more than two years. In December 2018, a judge gave Jon Gosselin sole custody of Collin after Kate did not show up in court KATU. Collin has lived with Jon ever since.
