American striker Christian Ramirez scored two goals to secure a 2-1 victory for Austin FC over the Vancouver Whitecaps. The goals came from the only two on-target shots of the game, with Brian White temporarily tying the score at 1-1 in the 49th minute with his 16th goal across all competitions this season. Despite the result, Austin remains one point below the playoff bar. The Whitecaps remained top of Major League Soccer’s Western Conference standings. Despite being without star midfielder Thomas Muller, who celebrated his 37th birthday on Sunday, was held out of the match due to a thigh injury. The game ended up becoming physical with players from both teams getting bodied to the turf.
