Coast Guard Jet Carrying DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin Makes Emergency Landing

A Coast Guard jet carrying Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin and other DHS officials made an emergency landing outside Washington, D.C., after an engine failed. The pilot reported the engine loss to air traffic controllers at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). The plane had 14 people on board and 2.5 hours' worth of fuel. Mullin was aboard a C-37A, a military version of a Gulfstream V jet, which is often used to carry senior officials from the Coast Guard and DHS. The Department of Homeland Security has previously raised concerns about the aging aircraft, which was 22 years old and faces significant avionics and communications obsolescence issues.
