Authorities Investigate Two Deaths Found During Welfare Check at a Rumford Residence

Two people were found dead in a Rumford home on Franklin Street during a welfare check Wednesday morning around 9 a.m., according to Maine State Police. Authorities say there is no danger to the public as the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit investigates the deaths with support from the Rumford Police Department.
Rumford police conducted a wellness check at the Franklin Street residence around 8:55 to 9:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, WABI reported. The officers discovered a man and a woman inside the home. Both bodies were then transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for further examination.
The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit is leading the investigation into the deaths, with the Rumford Police Department assisting. The Maine State Police Evidence Response Team also worked at the scene to gather evidence. Officials have not yet publicly released the names of the deceased.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta will perform autopsies on both bodies, Sun Journal reported. These examinations will officially confirm the identities of the two people and determine the cause and manner of death. Authorities have not yet released those results.
