CAIT Denies Nationwide UPI Boycott Call as Traders Protest New Fees in Madhya Pradesh

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) says it has not called for or endorsed a nationwide “No UPI Day” on October 2, calling reports to the contrary inaccurate and urging the public to rely on its official statements. It said any protests over merchant discount rates (MDR) were independently organized by other trade groups and should not be attributed to CAIT. Separately, traders in Madhya Pradesh held a local protest by covering shop QR codes and urging customers to pay cash. The dispute concerns a 0.4% MDR on eligible person-to-merchant UPI transactions above 2,000 rupees, scheduled to take effect October 15; reports say the fee is paid by merchants, while the government has indicated the start date will not change.
