Chiefs coach Andy Reid confirms Patrick Mahomes is likely to start Sunday opener.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has confirmed that quarterback Patrick Mahomes is likely to start the season opener against the Denver Broncos, nine months after ACL and LCL tears in his left knee. The only caveat is if Mahomes has an unexpected setback. The injury occurred during a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Dec. 14. The Chiefs also have a question mark at left tackle Josh Simmons' position due to a back injury. If Simmons is unable to play, rookie Kahlil Benson will replace him. Mahomes, a two-time league MVP and three-time Super Bowl MVP, completed a career low 62.7% of his passes last season for a career-low 62.3% of passes.
