Former Army Officer Urges Women To Consider Air Pistols For Self-Defense Training

Former Indian Army officer Khushboo Patani, sister of actor Disha Patani, posted a video urging women to consider learning to use an air pistol for self-defense amid concerns about violence against women, including a reported assault in Jamui. She demonstrated a CO₂-powered .177 pistol that resembles a Glock, explaining that it fires pellets rather than conventional ammunition, and advised interested viewers to get proper training at a shooting range. Patani warned that the weapon is not a toy and should be handled responsibly; reports also note that air-weapon rules in India depend on the weapon’s specifications.
Patani said the air pistol costs about ₹60,000–70,000 and advised prospective buyers to choose a model they can handle, taking its weight, range and impact into account.
She advised viewers not to buy an air pistol online, but to contact a local district dealer, and said it should be used only in a “do or die situation.”
During the demonstration, Patani described the pistol as weighing roughly 1.5–2 kilograms and said its pellets could travel at high speed and injure or frighten an attacker.
Patani demonstrated removing the magazine and advised users to practise drawing the pistol from a purse or pocket quickly, without looking at it.
