Disney+ Veteran Alisa Bowen Appointed FuboTV CEO, Poised for Growth in Streaming Market

Bowen spent almost a decade at Disney, most recently as president of Disney+, and she helped build Disney+'s ecosystem alongside Hulu and ESPN+, positioning her to accelerate Fubo's growth within the Disney-driven streaming universe.
Prior to Disney, Bowen held senior roles at News Corp Australia, Dow Jones and Reuters, and she currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors for Starlight Children's Foundation.
David Gandler is resigning from Fubo's board and will not stand for re-election at the Disney-affiliated company.
The Fubo 8-K filing notes Bowen is 53 years old and has nearly 30 years of product and digital leadership across media and technology,
Fubo chairman Andy Bird described Bowen's appointment as the culmination of a thoughtful process by independent directors and said she is a proven operator capable of advancing Fubo’s strategy and performance.
FuboTV has named Alisa Bowen as its new CEO, effective July 10, 2026, replacing co-founder David Gandler, who built the company from scratch over more than a decade, according to Deadline. Bowen spent nearly 10 years at Disney, most recently as president of Disney+, and now takes the helm of a company that Disney controls with a 70% stake following its merger with Hulu + Live TV.
Gandler, who co-founded FuboTV in 2015, will resign from the board and will not stand for re-election at the company's July 28, 2026 shareholder meeting, Deadline reported. Bowen is expected to join Fubo's board at that same meeting, pending shareholder approval.
Bowen, 53, brings nearly 30 years of product and digital leadership across media and technology, according to Fubo's 8-K SEC filing. She joined Disney in the mid-2010s and helped build the streaming portfolio that includes Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+. She became president of Disney+ in 2022.
Before Disney, Bowen held senior roles at News Corp Australia, Dow Jones, and Reuters. She currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Starlight Children's Foundation. WDWNT noted that her deep streaming background makes her a strong fit to lead Fubo inside the Disney ecosystem.
Fubo board chair Andy Bird described the hire as the result of a thorough process. Bird said Bowen is "a proven operator" capable of advancing Fubo's strategy and performance, according to Deadline. Bird and other Disney-affiliated directors led the search through an independent committee.
Bird himself has deep Disney roots. He served as chairman of Walt Disney International before joining Fubo's board. The leadership transition signals that Disney is tightening its grip on Fubo's direction after taking majority control through the Hulu + Live TV merger deal.
David Gandler launched FuboTV in 2015 as a sports-focused live TV streaming service. He led the company through its growth years, its 2020 public listing, and ultimately its merger with Hulu + Live TV. Hot96 reported that Gandler is being removed as Disney installs its own leadership.
Gandler will not stand for re-election at the July 28 shareholder meeting. His exit closes a chapter for the company he built. Fubo now operates as a Disney-majority business, and Bowen's arrival marks a clear shift toward aligning the streamer more tightly with Disney's broader strategy.
FuboTV competes in the crowded live TV streaming market alongside YouTube TV and DirecTV Stream. Disney's majority stake gives Fubo access to premium content like ESPN and ABC. Bowen's experience scaling Disney+ — which grew to tens of millions of subscribers — positions her to push Fubo toward profitability, according to WDWNT.
Andy Bird said Bowen's track record speaks for itself. The board wants her to accelerate growth and improve financial performance. With Disney controlling 70% of the business, Fubo's future is now deeply tied to how well it fits inside the larger Disney streaming universe.
