Pac-12 Football Returns Four Years After Massive Conference Exodus

The Pac-12 football conference, known as the "Conference of Champions," nearly went to extinction four years ago after a mass exodus of 10 schools. The conference was once home to stars such as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Cheryl Miller, Tiger Woods, Jackie Robinson, Lisa Leslie, and Jackie Joyner-Kersey. The remaining schools managed to pull the conference out of a death spiral, with seven new members joining Oregon State and Washington State. The league also had to negotiate new media rights deals to ensure all its football games are on TV. Despite setbacks, the conference began showing signs of life in a few months. The Pac-10 also had an automatic bid under the new 12-team format, dropping the Power Five (now Four) format.
