Zoom rolls out standalone AI receptionist, integrating with any existing phone system

Industry research cited in the release highlights the need for AI-powered front desks: 71% of consumers find calling a business more stressful than the issue, and 50% say they would switch to a competitor after a single bad experience.
Standalone Zoom Virtual Agent Receptionist is available for online purchase now, at $29.99 per month per 100 minutes (or $24.99 with annual billing), with a free trial available to both new and existing customers.
The offering is designed to work with any existing telephony environment, allowing organizations to add AI-powered front desk capabilities without replacing their current phone system.
The product is positioned as extending AI benefits beyond Zoom Phone, with a history note that Zoom Virtual Agent Receptionist originated inside Zoom Phone and is now marketed for interoperability across existing business phone systems.
Zoom has launched a standalone version of its AI-powered receptionist that works with any business phone system — no Zoom Phone required. Business Insider reported that the Zoom Virtual Agent Receptionist can now be added to existing phone setups, handling calls, booking appointments, and routing customers without a full system overhaul.
The product starts at $29.99 per month per 100 minutes, or $24.99 with an annual plan. A free trial is available to both new and existing customers, according to MarketScreener.
The biggest selling point is simplicity. Businesses can plug the AI receptionist into whatever phone system they already use. Chris Moss, the general manager of Zoom Phone, said businesses "shouldn't have to replace their phone systems to benefit from AI." The goal is faster responses and round-the-clock availability without expensive migrations.
The product supports more than 10 languages and includes live transcription, smart call routing, and appointment scheduling. Wahana Riau noted that the tool lets staff stay focused on meaningful work while the AI handles routine inbound calls.
Zoom is leaning on striking consumer data to make its case. According to MarketScreener, industry research shows that 71% of consumers find calling a business more stressful than the actual problem they are calling about. Another 50% say they would switch to a competitor after just one bad experience.
That kind of customer loss adds up fast. Zoom positions the AI receptionist as a way to capture missed opportunities — booking appointments, answering questions, and keeping callers from hanging up and going elsewhere.
The Zoom Virtual Agent Receptionist did not start as its own product. It was originally built inside Zoom Phone. Now Zoom is spinning it out as a standalone tool to reach businesses that use other phone providers. Wahana Riau reported that the move is designed to spread AI adoption more broadly across different telephony environments.
The product is available for purchase online right now. Zoom is betting that a low barrier to entry — a free trial and a per-minute pricing model — will win over businesses that are curious about AI but not ready to rip out their current phone infrastructure.
