Andra AP Fonden Significantly Boosts Stakes in IBM, McDonald's, RBC While Trimming AppLovin

Andra AP fonden added 23,800 IBM shares in Q1, raising its total to 122,900 shares (value about $29,790,000).
In McDonald’s, Andra AP fonden purchased 79,211 additional shares in Q1, bringing its stake to 87,171 shares with a value of about $27,092,000.
Andra AP fonden boosted Royal Bank of Canada exposure by 140,974 shares in Q1, for a total of 157,077 shares, valued at roughly $25,412,000.
The fund trimmed AppLovin by 39,497 shares in Q1, leaving 64,666 shares valued at about $25,737,000.
Andra AP fonden increased its Sherwin-Williams stake by 14,360 shares in Q1 to 75,380 shares, valued at around $24,163,000.
Swedish pension fund Andra AP fonden made sweeping changes to its portfolio in the first quarter of 2025, sharply expanding positions in McDonald's, Royal Bank of Canada, and IBM while cutting its AppLovin stake. The moves signal a broad shift toward blue-chip stocks in financial services, fast food, and technology, according to Defense World.
The biggest single jump came in McDonald's, where the fund added 79,211 shares — a 995.1% increase — bringing its total to 87,171 shares worth about $27.1 million. Royal Bank of Canada saw a similarly dramatic surge, with the fund adding 140,974 shares for a 875.5% boost.
Andra AP fonden raised its IBM position by 24%, adding 23,800 shares to reach 122,900 total. Those shares are now valued at roughly $29.8 million, making IBM the fund's largest single holding among the five stocks it reshuffled this quarter, according to Defense World.
McDonald's was the quarter's most dramatic addition in percentage terms. The fund went from a tiny foothold to 87,171 shares, worth $27.1 million, in a single quarter. That near-tenfold increase suggests a deliberate bet on a defensive consumer brand as global markets stayed volatile.
The fund's Royal Bank of Canada position jumped from about 16,100 shares to 157,077 shares — an 875.5% increase. The new stake is worth approximately $25.4 million. The move pushes the fund deep into Canadian financial services, one of the most stable banking sectors in the world.
The Royal Bank buy mirrors other big moves Andra AP fonden made this quarter in financial stocks. Defense World also reported the fund boosted its American Express position by 33.3%, adding to a broader tilt toward payment and banking companies with steady earnings.
Not every move was a buy. The fund trimmed its AppLovin position by 37.9%, selling 39,497 shares. It still holds 64,666 shares worth about $25.7 million. AppLovin is a mobile advertising and software company that saw its stock price surge in late 2024, making it a natural target for profit-taking.
On the other side of the ledger, Andra AP fonden added 14,360 shares of Sherwin-Williams, raising its stake by 23.5% to 75,380 shares valued at $24.2 million. The paint and coatings giant is seen as a steady, inflation-resilient business tied to housing and construction demand.
Across all five moves, a clear pattern emerges. The fund rotated away from high-growth, high-volatility tech plays like AppLovin and toward large, proven companies with global reach. IBM, McDonald's, and Royal Bank of Canada are all household names with long track records of dividends and steady earnings.
Defense World also reported that Andra AP fonden boosted stakes in Advanced Micro Devices by 230.4%, UnitedHealth Group by 376.7%, and Shopify by 166.9% during the same quarter. Taken together, the fund appears to be building a wider, more diversified base while selectively trimming riskier bets made in prior quarters.
