Expert shares simple methods to expand your garden for free this September

September is a good time for gardeners to expand their planting without increasing spending, according to Senior Gardener Noah Mabey from Thornbridge Hall in Derbyshire. The Royal Horticultural Society recommends dividing clump-forming herbaceous perennials, which can rejuvenate an overcrowded plant and provide gardeners with extra sections for use elsewhere. The main task is to create additional plants from an existing clump. Mabay also recommends allowing healthy flowers to form mature seed heads before storing seeds for next year's sowing. For gardeners preparing for winter, make the most of healthy plants and seeds already in the garden before spending money on replacements.
