Peura has quickly become the defensive anchor of the Spartans. Her seven solo tackles in a single game are a clear sign of her impact on the field. Head coach Gord Goddard has pointed to players like Peura as proof that the team's technical training is paying off Sault This Week.

The Spartans are averaging 58.5 points per game through four weeks. That offensive firepower, combined with Peura's defensive production, has made Sudbury one of the hardest teams to play in the OWFL 19U division Brantford Expositor.

Goddard's Tackling Investment Cuts Concussion Risk

Before the 2026 season, Goddard made a key decision. He invested in specialized tackling equipment for the women's teams. The gear includes moving sleds and tackling donuts, which let players practice hard hits without contact during mid-week sessions Cochrane Times Post.
