Folarin Balogun scored two goals on June 12 as the United States beat Paraguay 4-1 in the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, according to FOX Sports. Balogun was born in Brooklyn to Nigerian parents and raised in London. He came up through Arsenal's academy and had a breakout 2022-23 season on loan at Stade de Reims in France, scoring 22 goals — a record for an American in one of Europe's top five leagues, according to Wikipedia.
England also wanted him. But in May 2023, Balogun filed a one-time change of association with FIFA to commit to the USMNT, per U.S. Soccer. Balogun's market value, currently estimated between €23.8 million and €40 million by Transfermarkt, is expected to surge if he keeps scoring.
