IREN delivers Horizon 1 AI cloud to Microsoft, secures NVIDIA status, driving stock gains.

Horizon 1, while a 50MW IT load, accounts for about 10.4% of IREN's planned 480MW AI Cloud capacity for 2026.
Microsoft approved Horizon 1, and the milestone coincided with a move higher in Microsoft’s stock, which edged 0.8% higher in morning trade after the news.
IREN’s stock also showed strength premarket, rising as much as 7.2% on Horizon 1 delivery news, signaling investor enthusiasm beyond the immediate contract.
NVIDIA Exemplar Cloud status was achieved for IREN’s GB300 NVL72 deployment at Horizon 1 after NVIDIA’s testing of hardware, software and the network stack, underscoring readiness for demanding AI workloads.
Analyst perspective on IREN remains mixed: the latest public rating is Buy with a $100 price target, while Spark AI Analyst rates the stock Neutral due to leverage and cash-flow considerations.
IREN Limited delivered Horizon 1, its 50-megawatt AI data center at Childress, Texas, and Microsoft formally accepted it — a key milestone under a five-year, $9.7 billion contract, according to Kalkine Media. The same day, NVIDIA awarded IREN its Exemplar Cloud status for the GB300 NVL72 deployment at the site, sending IREN shares up as much as 12% in early trading, Invezz reported.
The milestone makes Horizon 1 the first of four similar deployments IREN plans to complete in 2026. The company is targeting up to 480MW of AI Cloud capacity this year and roughly 1.2 gigawatts by 2027.
NVIDIA's Exemplar Cloud designation is not automatic. NVIDIA puts a provider's hardware, software, and network stack through rigorous testing before awarding it, according to Stocktwits. Earning the badge signals that IREN's Horizon 1 infrastructure is ready for the most demanding AI workloads available today.
The specific system tested was IREN's GB300 NVL72 deployment — NVIDIA's latest high-performance AI computing platform. TradingView noted that IREN, once known primarily as a Bitcoin miner, has now staked its identity as a full-stack AI infrastructure provider, handling design, engineering, and construction in-house.
Horizon 1's 50MW IT load represents about 10.4% of IREN's total 480MW target for 2026. Horizons 2, 3, and 4 are all scheduled to come online later this year. IREN co-founder and Co-CEO Daniel Roberts credited a site team of around 3,000 people for hitting the delivery date.
Roberts signaled that collaboration with Microsoft will continue as the remaining phases ramp up. The scale of the buildout — from 480MW this year to 1.2 gigawatts in 2027 — reflects just how fast AI infrastructure demand is growing, Kalkine Media reported.
IREN shares jumped as much as 12% on the news, according to Invezz, while Crypto Times put the intraday gain at 10.41%. Microsoft stock also edged 0.8% higher in morning trade after the acceptance was confirmed — a small but notable move for a company of its size.
Investor enthusiasm reflects confidence in IREN's execution speed and its ability to lock in large contracts. The stock had risen as much as 7.2% in premarket trading before the broader rally took hold, signaling that the market viewed both announcements — Horizon 1 delivery and the NVIDIA badge — as genuine proof points.
Not everyone is rushing to buy. The most recent public analyst rating is a Buy with a $100 price target. But Spark AI Analyst rates the stock Neutral, pointing to IREN's leverage and cash-flow pressures as reasons to stay cautious.
The tension is real. IREN is spending heavily to build data centers fast, and cash flow will lag until each Horizon deployment is fully operational and generating revenue. How quickly Horizons 2 through 4 come online — and stay online — will be the deciding factor for skeptical investors, TradingView noted.
