Lloyds Banking Group and Halifax customers nationwide face widespread online banking outages.

Thousands of customers of Lloyds Banking Group, including Halifax and Lloyds Bank, reported outages affecting mobile apps and online banking, with Downdetector showing spikes in complaints beginning shortly after 11am. Many users said they were unable to log in or access online banking, seeing warnings such as being “logged out” and prompts to try again later, including a (503) error. Some customers also reported problems transferring money or making payments, with Halifax users posting issues across multiple UK cities. The bank’s public updates acknowledged the disruption and said teams were working to restore service, while some accounts recommended basic troubleshooting like checking for app updates and restarting phones. The outage comes after an earlier technology failure this year in which some customers reportedly saw transactions that were not theirs. Overall, the incidents underline recurring reliability concerns for large UK banks’ digital services during service-wide technical problems.
Lloyds Bank said on X that it was “aware some customers are having issues with our app and online banking,” adding: “We’re really sorry about this. We’re working hard to fix it and will let you know as soon as we’re back to normal.”
Downdetector breakdown from Halifax users showed 67% of reported problems related to Halifax while 13% were linked to login, and a further 10% involved fund transfers; reported outages included users in London, Birmingham, Leeds and Liverpool.
Ladbible reported that Downdetector showed “over 4,700 customers” had filed complaints in the past 24 hours, alongside widespread messages warning users they were “logged out.”
The earlier technology incident referenced by CityAM included allegations that customers saw “national insurance numbers and benefit payments” that did not belong to them—beyond simply seeing transactions that were not theirs.
