Independent councillors Nosheen Khalid and Shaukat Mahmood, both elected for the Alum Rock ward in May 2026, went to the scene on Wednesday evening. They issued a joint statement urging the public to avoid the area and stop sharing unverified information online, according to Daily Star.

West Midlands Police have been running "Project Guardian," a long-term scheme aimed at cutting knife and gun crime among young people.
