Courteney Cox and Johnny McDaid End Decade-Long Relationship Amicably, Remain Good Friends

Courteney Cox and Johnny McDaid reportedly met in 2013 after being introduced by mutual friend Ed Sheeran.
They announced their engagement the following year, then briefly split in 2015 before reconciling in 2016 to stay together.
Johnny McDaid is a longtime collaborator with Ed Sheeran and co-wrote several of his biggest hits, including Shape Of You, Photograph, Galway Girl, Bad Habits and Shivers.
Katie Simpson was a talented showjumper whose life centered around the equine industry; police initially believed Creswell’s claim that he’d found her hanging at home, and Creswell later died by suicide during his trial.
Courteney Cox and Johnny McDaid have quietly ended their 13-year relationship, sources confirmed on June 27, 2026. The split was described as entirely amicable, with no drama between the two. The pair had been living largely separate lives — Cox in Los Angeles, McDaid in London and Derry — for some time before making the decision privately in late 2025, according to TMZ.
The couple first got together in 2013 after being introduced by mutual friend Ed Sheeran. They got engaged in 2014, split briefly in 2015, then reconciled in 2016. Their last confirmed public appearance together was at the US Open in September 2025, according to Daily Star.
Friends close to the couple say geography was the real culprit. Cox, 62, stayed rooted in LA for her production work and family. McDaid, 49, remained based in the UK, with Snow Patrol's 2026 summer tour keeping him busy. Sources told Page Six the split was "not an ugly split" — just two people who had drifted into different worlds after more than a decade together.
The couple even spent most of 2020 and 2021 apart due to COVID travel restrictions. A source close to the pair told Hungama Express they had started "living different lives" well before the formal split. Despite the end of their romance, the two are said to remain "great friends."
McDaid is no ordinary musician. The Snow Patrol songwriter co-wrote some of Ed Sheeran's biggest hits, including Shape of You, Photograph, Galway Girl, Bad Habits, and Shivers. It was Sheeran who introduced the couple at a party in 2013. That connection to a shared creative world helped keep Cox and McDaid close even across the Atlantic, according to Belfast Telegraph.
McDaid is now reportedly in the "early stages" of a new relationship. Cox, meanwhile, has been linked in the press to her Shining Vale co-star Greg Kinnear, though sources say the two are "simply good friends." Cox also continues to co-parent her daughter Coco, 22, with ex-husband David Arquette.
This split follows a now-familiar pattern for Cox. She divorced David Arquette in 2013 after 11 years of marriage but kept the friendship alive. The two remain close co-parents today. Sources say her relationship with McDaid will follow the same path. As TMZ noted, there is "no bad blood" between the two.
Cox turns 61 — correction, is 62 — and has consistently avoided the messy, high-profile breakups common in Hollywood. That reputation appears intact. Friends say both Cox and McDaid are at peace with the decision and moving forward without conflict.
Separate from the celebrity news, investigative reporter Nicola Tallant — author of Groomed and host of the Crime World podcast — says there are still critical angles to explore in the Katie Simpson case. Simpson, a 21-year-old showjumper, died in August 2020. Her partner Jonathan Creswell initially told police he found her at home. He was later charged with murder but died by suicide on the second day of his trial in April 2024, according to Belfast Telegraph.
On June 26, 2026, a court ordered police to redact 352 files — roughly 29,000 pages — ahead of a formal inquest. An independent review by Dr. Jan Melia found "institutional misogyny" in how police first handled the case, and found that "not one officer thought seriously about abuse or control" in the first seven months. The next court date is set for November 4, 2026.
