Mattel Unveils Miley Cyrus Barbie Doll Inspired by 'Golden Burning Sun' Music Video

Mattel has unveiled the "Barbie Signature Miley Cyrus Doll," a collector's item modeled after Cyrus's look in her "Golden Burning Sun" music video. The doll went on sale June 30, 2026, first exclusively to "Barbie Club 59" members, then broadly at Amazon, Target, and Walmart the following day at a price of $55–$60 WSB Radio.
Cyrus called the moment "a dream come true," adding that "every detail was purposeful" Forbes. The launch was timed alongside her Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony on May 22 and the 20th anniversary of *Hannah Montana*, making it one of the most strategically loaded celebrity Barbie releases in years.
The doll is based on Cyrus's look in the "Golden Burning Sun" video from her ninth studio album, *Something Beautiful*, released in May 2025 B98.5. It features a face sculpt by lead designer Javi Meabe and packaging by Laydiana Chiv, both of Mattel Creations Mattel Creations.
Cyrus had direct creative input on "hair dimension," "structure," and "shoe shape" Forbes. In a promotional clip, she referenced a scene from *Hannah Montana* and praised the detail on the doll's microphone — a nod to fans who grew up watching her on Disney+. Mattel VP Nathan Baynard said Cyrus "redefined what it means to be an artist and performer" Newsweek.
The Cyrus doll joins a "Barbie Signature" music lineup that already includes Stevie Nicks, Tina Turner, Mariah Carey, and Aaliyah Evening Standard. These are "Black Label" products — collector items, not kids' toys. They carry higher price points and stricter distribution rules than standard Barbies.
Adult collectors now make up a major share of Barbie's $2.12 billion global market, which is growing at 8.5% per year through 2035 Business Research Insights. The Stevie Nicks Barbie sold out in three hours and tripled in price on eBay within a week. Early signs suggest the Cyrus doll is on the same path Resell Calendar.
The campaign kicked off May 22, when Donatella Versace dressed Cyrus for her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony Sports Illustrated. On June 23, Cyrus teased the collab on Instagram with a cropped photo of her Walk of Fame star featuring Barbie doll legs in leather pants. The caption simply read: "June 30" Resell Calendar.
The launch also followed the *Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special*, which aired March 24, 2026, on Disney+. Cyrus used that moment to publicly reclaim her Disney roots. Mattel leaned into the nostalgia angle hard, framing the doll as a "full-circle moment" for a star with over 30 million albums sold Mattel Creations.
Not everyone is celebrating. Some cultural critics argue the Signature Series distracts from Barbie's long history of promoting unrealistic body standards. Critic Elena Rossini has written that the "Barbie Mania" era serves as a "two-hour commercial" that masks deeper issues of consumerism The Viking Vanguard.
Mattel also has a history of strictly policing Barbie's image. Artists who use the doll for parody or critique have faced legal action — like photographer Tom Forsythe, who was sued by Mattel Inventa. Cyrus had creative input on this doll, but Mattel controls how it's used and sold. The brand's "inclusive" messaging sits alongside tight IP enforcement.
