McGraw Hill posted fiscal first quarter 2027 revenue of $549.9 million, up 2.6% year over year, beating expectations and sending shares up 3.9%, according to Investing.com. Net income jumped to $57.9 million, compared to just $0.5 million in the same period last year, Scanx Trade reported.
The results were powered by growth in Higher Education and K-12, with digital revenue climbing 8.8% to $353.5 million. The company reaffirmed its fiscal 2027 sales guidance in the range of $2.12 billion to $2.18 billion, per Barchart.
Recurring revenue — money McGraw Hill can count on from multi-year contracts and renewals — rose 9.8% to $425.6 million. That now makes up 77% of total revenue, a sign the business is becoming more predictable and stable, according to TipRanks.
Digital revenue hit $353.5 million, up 8.8%. The company's Evergreen model, which locks in Higher Education customers through rolling renewals, helped push recurring revenue in that segment up 14.1%. Higher Education revenue overall grew 9.6% to $199.8 million, Barchart reported.
The K-12 segment showed steady growth, with recurring revenue up 7.1% to $196.6 million. Programs like Emerge, Summit, and Soar are gaining early traction, according to Barchart. The Science of Reading policy, now adopted in 44 states, is also creating a favorable environment for McGraw Hill's curriculum products.
Remaining Performance Obligations — future revenue already under contract — stood at $1,522.2 million as of June 30, 2026. That figure gives investors strong visibility into future revenue, per TipRanks.
Moody's upgraded McGraw Hill's credit rating in July 2026, a vote of confidence in the company's improving finances. GAAP gross profit reached $439.2 million, with a gross margin of 79.9%. Adjusted EBITDA — a measure of operating profit before certain costs — totaled $207.0 million, a 37.7% margin, per Las Vegas Sun.
The company still carries debt, and investors are watching leverage reduction closely. But the Moody's upgrade and strong margins suggest the balance sheet is moving in the right direction, Scanx Trade noted.
CEO Philip Moyer cited artificial intelligence as a real contributor to the company's momentum. AI is helping drive revenue growth, expand margins, and support higher pricing, he said. McGraw Hill's technology-based learning tools are a core part of that push, per Barchart.
