Daniil Medvedev Defeats Andrey Rublev to Claim Hangzhou Open Title

Daniil Medvedev defeated fellow Russian Andrey Rublev 7-5, 6-4 to win the Hangzhou Open, earning his 24th career tour-level title and third of the season after Brisbane and Dubai. Medvedev’s 23 aces helped secure the victory and strengthened his bid to qualify for the season-ending ATP Finals, after missing the event last year. The world No. 6 is scheduled to play qualifier Pablo Carreno Busta in Beijing next.
Rublev said after the final that he and Medvedev had shared so many years and memories, and hoped they would make many more together; the longtime friends exchanged warm embraces at the trophy ceremony.
The Hangzhou win was notable for Medvedev’s record across tournament locations: 23 of his 24 career titles have come at different venues, with Dubai the only place where he has won a title more than once.
The final was a matchup of the tournament’s top two seeds: top seed Medvedev beat second seed Rublev in a match reported to have lasted 93 minutes.
