London Stock Exchange Unveils 2027 Night Trading Venue for ETPs, Boosting Global Liquidity

The LSE plans to launch the night trading venue with an initial focus on exchange-traded products (ETPs) rather than individual equities, and officials expect to start with more than 2,600 listed ETPs.
The overnight session will run 5:00 pm to 7:50 am London time, with a 30-minute end-of-day processing pause from 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm.
LSE Chief Executive Julia Hoggett says there is growing retail demand to use London's timezone to gain exposure to UK and global assets, particularly from Asia.
The project includes infrastructure planning to support agentic AI-driven trading tools for after-hours markets, signaling a move toward more automated trading.
The London Stock Exchange plans to launch a dedicated night-time trading venue in the first half of 2027, according to CoinTelegraph and LCX. The new session will run from 5:00 pm to 7:50 am London time — nearly 15 hours of after-hours trading — separate from the main market, which closes at 4:30 pm.
The LSE will start by offering access to exchange-traded products, or ETPs — funds that track stocks, bonds, or commodities — rather than individual shares. Officials expect more than 2,600 listed ETPs to be available from day one, BigGo Finance reported.
The night venue will operate as a fully separate exchange from the LSE's main market. Trading runs from 5:00 pm to 7:50 am London time. There is a 30-minute pause between 6:30 pm and 7:00 pm for end-of-day processing. After 7:50 am, the main market opens as usual at 8:00 am, LCX reported.
The LSE is seeking regulatory approval from the UK's Financial Conduct Authority, or FCA. Individual stocks will not be available at launch. The exchange plans to expand the product range over time, according to Head Topics.
LSE Chief Executive Julia Hoggett says the push comes from real investor demand. She pointed specifically to retail investors in Asia, who want to use London's timezone to get exposure to UK and global assets. Asia's markets close hours before London's main session even opens.
BigGo Finance reported that the LSE wants London to become a round-the-clock global liquidity hub — a place where money flows in and out at any hour. Retail investors increasingly expect 24/7 access, a habit partly shaped by crypto markets that never close.
The LSE is not alone. A growing number of exchanges worldwide are pushing toward near-24-hour trading, according to CoinTelegraph. Crypto markets like Bitcoin trade every hour of every day, and traditional stock exchanges feel the pressure to keep up.
The LSE's night venue also includes plans to support agentic AI trading tools — software that can place trades automatically without human input. This signals a major shift in how after-hours markets could operate, with machines doing much of the work while human traders sleep, LCX noted.
The LSE still needs FCA sign-off before the venue can open. The exchange is expected to outline the full list of eligible assets and operational rules as part of that approval process. A launch in the first half of 2027 gives roughly two years for planning and regulatory work, cryptonews.net reported.
If successful, the move could pressure other major European exchanges to follow. The LSE's main market handles billions of pounds in trades each day. An overnight venue, even limited to ETPs at first, would mark the biggest structural change to London trading in decades.
