Parma and Coach Carlos Cuesta Mutually Agree to Part Ways Following Slow Start

Parma and head coach Carlos Cuesta mutually agreed to part ways on September 27, 2026, after a difficult Serie A start that brought one win and four points from five matches, alongside an early Coppa Italia exit. The club said conditions to continue their working relationship, particularly around the sporting project, were no longer in place; reports said tensions with leadership predated the latest league results. Parma’s technical staff will oversee training while the club looks for a new coach. Cuesta, 31, was appointed in June 2025 and led Parma to 13th place last season after spending five years as an assistant at Arsenal.
When appointed in June 2025, Cuesta became the youngest head coach in Europe’s top five leagues; he had previously worked with Juventus’s under-17 side and Atlético Madrid.
Parma finished 14 points short of the European places in Cuesta’s only full season in charge.
The decision followed a meeting with CEO Federico Cherubini, with discussion reportedly focused on the management of certain on-pitch matters.
Parma’s next match is away to reigning Serie A champions Inter Milan on October 10, following the international break.
