Steve Buscemi Joins FX and Hulu's Anticipated Far Cry Adaptation, Marking His First FX Series Role

Deadline confirms that Far Cry will mark Steve Buscemi's first FX series.
The Far Cry executive-producer slate goes beyond Hawley and Rob Mac to include Simon Emanuel, Emilia Serrano (26 Keys), Nicholas Frenkel (3 Arts), Monica Macer, Peter Calloway, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin and Austin Dill (Ubisoft Film & Television).
The Far Cry franchise has attracted more than 100 million unique players since its 2004 inception.
Hollywood Reporter notes that FX has not clarified whether Hawley and Mac will adapt a specific Far Cry game or simply use the game's world as a jumping-off point.
Steve Buscemi is joining FX and Hulu's upcoming Far Cry series, making it his first-ever FX show, Deadline confirmed. He steps into a cast that already includes Rob Mac and Lizzy Caplan, with the anthology series based on Ubisoft's blockbuster video game franchise.
Noah Hawley — the creator behind Fargo and Alien: Earth — is developing the series alongside Mac as executive producers. The show will air on FX and Hulu in the US and stream internationally on Disney+, according to Collider.
FX has not revealed what character Buscemi will play. Details about his role remain under wraps. What is clear is that he is a series lead, not a supporting player, according to Dread Central.
Buscemi brings a long list of credits to the project. He is known for Reservoir Dogs, The Big Lebowski, Boardwalk Empire, Miracle Workers, and Wednesday. He is repped by UTA and The Gotham Group, Blaze Trends noted.
Far Cry the game is famous for telling fresh stories in new settings each entry. The TV series will copy that approach. Each season will feature a different cast and a different world, Bleeding Cool reported.
Hollywood Reporter noted that FX has not said whether the show will adapt a specific Far Cry game directly. Hawley and Mac may simply use the game's spirit as a jumping-off point rather than retelling a known story beat for beat.
The Far Cry franchise launched in 2004 and has since drawn more than 100 million unique players worldwide. That massive built-in audience gives FX a strong foundation to build from, according to AwardsWatch.
FX picked up the series in November 2025. The production is a joint effort between FX Productions, Ubisoft Film & Television, 26 Keys, and More Better Productions. The executive producer list is long, including Simon Emanuel, Monica Macer, Peter Calloway, and several Ubisoft executives.
Noah Hawley already has two acclaimed anthology series on his resume. Fargo ran for five seasons on FX. Alien: Earth is his latest hit. Adding Far Cry makes him one of TV's busiest franchise builders.
Rob Mac, known for It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, serves as co-creator and executive producer alongside Hawley. Together they are shaping what FX hopes will be a long-running, multi-season universe, Bleeding Cool reported.
