Spokesperson Anwar Shahzad confirmed only three injuries — two laborers hurt when a hotel wall cracked in Musakhail and one resident injured in a house collapse in Kingri, according to Dawn. In some villages, families abandoned their mud-brick homes and moved into tents, fearing aftershocks.
Seismic agencies reported very different numbers for the same quake. USGS put the depth at a shallow 10 km — shallow quakes tend to cause more surface shaking. State sources stressed "no major damage," but for families living in mud-brick homes in remote Balochistan, even a "moderate" quake can be destructive. Pakistan's National Seismic Monitoring Centre recorded that quake at magnitude 5.2 with a depth of 19 km and placed the epicenter 58 km northeast of Barkhan.
Saturday's 5.4 quake then struck just after 3 a.m., catching sleeping residents off guard. Panic spread quickly in Barkhan, Kohlu, and Musakhail, with people running into streets, Pakistan Today reported. A separate, stronger magnitude 5.9 quake later struck the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, also shaking parts of Pakistan, according to WTOP. That brought the total number of notable tremors felt across Pakistan to four within roughly 48 hours.
Pakistan's tremors did not occur in isolation. Earlier in the week, twin earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 devastated northwestern Venezuela. The death toll reached 920, with more than 3,360 injured and 50,000 people reported missing, according to The Guardian. Interim President Delcy Rodríguez vowed to "save as many people as possible" as 871 international rescue workers deployed to the hard-hit La Guaira region.
Some analysts cited in Business Today framed the Pakistan and Venezuela events as part of a broader "connected pulse" of global seismic activity along the Alpine-Himalayan and Pacific Ring of Fire belts.
