New Animated Series 'Ghostbusters: Night Shift' Announced for 2027 Netflix Release

Sony Pictures Animation and Netflix have officially announced the new animated series Ghostbusters: Night Shift, revealing its title and logo during a Ghostbusters Day event at New York City’s FDNY Hook & Ladder 8 firehouse. The show is slated to debut exclusively on Netflix in 2027, and the creative team says it will deliver the franchise’s signature blend of supernatural comedy and paranormal action, positioning the series as true Ghostbusters canon. Executive producers include Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, with Dan Aykroyd also involved, while showrunners Ben Hibon and Elliott Kalan lead development that is currently focused on scripts, art, and supernatural worldbuilding. The project includes an early, world-exclusive preview at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 24 as part of a Netflix animation spotlight, though Netflix has not detailed a specific public release date beyond 2027. Organizers also highlighted the yearlong “Ghostbusters Give Back” fundraising initiative, which exceeded its $500,000 goal and supported local causes and the FDNY Foundation. The announcement further marks a return to television animation for the Ghostbusters brand.
During the Ghostbusters Day event, Gil Kenan told Nerdtropolis that the series will be “laugh out loud funny,” “genuinely scary,” and “pure Ghostbusters,” emphasizing it’s built to match the franchise’s expected tone and supernatural energy.
Netflix’s first-look logo was described as a comic-book-inspired, after-hours take on the classic No-Ghost symbol.
The “Ghostbusters Give Back” campaign’s fundraising details included “Golden Trap” awards for the top three local chapters: Buffalo Ghostbusters ($67,000), Los Angeles Ghostbusters ($65,000), and Ghostbusters Virginia ($30,000).
At the FDNY-hosted event, Sony Pictures also presented a $150,000 matching donation check—from Sony Pictures, the Starlight Children’s Foundation, and “Ghostbusters Give Back”—to Adam Garone, CEO of Starlight Children’s Foundation, according to the organizers’ notes.
