French Poll Shows Extreme Candidates Surging Ahead in 2027 Presidential Race

French far-right leader and member of parliament, Marine Le Pen, is leading the 2027 presidential election for the Rassemblement National (National Rally - RN). A poll showed that she would garner between 33% and 36% of the votes of the first-round election depending on scenarios tested by Toluna Harris Interactive. Her rival, Jean-Luc Melenchon, is seen reaching a run-off in at least three of the five scenarios polled, while he tied for second place in a fourth scenario. The survey was conducted between September 8 and September 10. As President Emmanuel Macron's tenure ends, the lack of a strong political centre and weak economy leaves space for hardline parties like Le Pen and MelenchON.
