Formerly Incarcerated Nebraskans Discuss Reentry Programs With Governor Pillen

Nebraskans Justice Cummings and LaRue Marcos, formerly incarcerated individuals, met with Gov. Jim Pillen and Department of Correctional Services Director Rob Jeffreys to discuss their perspectives on reducing recidivism in Nebraska. The pair found success at Ooh De Lally, a nonprofit restaurant in Omaha's Dundee neighborhood that primarily employs individuals returning to society after incarceration. Marcos said that about 1,600 people are released from incarceration each year, and over half are expected to be incarcerated within three years. The men shared their experiences and shared their basic safety needs, a place to live away from their old lives and temptations. They also shared their personal connections and shared the benefits of their hard work.
