Indian Police Report Major Multi-State Seizures Totaling Hundreds of Kilograms of Cannabis

Police across several Indian states reported cannabis seizures, including 251 kg worth an estimated ₹1.25 crore in Chandauli, 190 kg allegedly bound for Kerala seized in Theni, and 128.3 kg hidden in a goods vehicle in Odisha’s Sunki Ghati. Authorities also seized 31 kg in Fatehabad and reported multiple smaller seizures and arrests in Kerala, including four kilograms in Angamaly. Several suspects were arrested or detained, and investigators said they were working to identify suppliers, intended recipients and wider trafficking networks.
In the Chandauli case, police said the cannabis was packed in 120 packets inside eight sacks concealed in a compartment above the truck cabin. The arrested driver told investigators that a man from Bokaro had loaded the consignment for delivery to someone near Ramnagar in Varanasi.
In Theni, the 190 kg haul was divided among 95 packages in two cars. Police said they were searching for a fifth suspect, Kaleeswaran, from Ramanathapuram district; the four arrested men were remanded in judicial custody.
In the Angamaly seizure, excise officials said the two men had travelled to Tirur by train and hired a taxi to avoid checks at Thrissur and Aluva stations. They allegedly planned to sell the cannabis to migrant workers in the area.
Fatehabad police identified the two suspects as Vishwas and Chameli, who were intercepted during a patrol near Dhangar Pul. A case was registered against them under Sections 20C, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act.
