Allwyn UK Appoints Phil Walker as Interim Chief Executive After Vidler Departs Post-Lottery Transformation.

Allwyn disclosed a £450 million investment in transforming The National Lottery, covering major technology and infrastructure upgrades for 43,500 retail partners and a refreshed website and app.
The transformation under Vidler’s tenure also contributed to the National Lottery attracting about 1 million new active digital users.
Phil Walker, named interim CEO, is a long-time William Hill executive with roles including UK & Ireland managing director, online managing director and chief commercial officer, and has also held positions at evoke and City Gaming.
Vidler will remain with Allwyn UK in an advisory capacity until the end of October to support Walker and Allwyn chair Justin King during the transition.
Walker has expressed that he is excited and proud to take up the baton, emphasizing the importance of continuing to build on the National Lottery’s progress and its positive impact on communities.
Allwyn UK has named Phil Walker as interim chief executive, replacing Andria Vidler, who is stepping down after nearly three years leading the National Lottery operator. Walker will take over on September 7, according to Arts Professional and Gaming Intelligence.
Vidler oversaw what Allwyn calls the biggest transformation of the National Lottery since its 1994 launch. The company invested £450 million in the overhaul, covering technology upgrades, infrastructure changes for 43,500 retail partners, and a new website and app.
Under Vidler's watch, the National Lottery gained roughly 1 million new active digital users. New products also launched during her tenure, including New Lotto and Powerball in the UK. Allwyn says the transition into the Fourth Licence — the legal framework for running the lottery — is now complete, Gaming Intelligence reported.
Vidler will not leave immediately. She stays in an advisory role until the end of October to support Walker and Allwyn chair Justin King. Better Retailing noted that the handover is designed to keep the transition smooth for staff, retailers, and players.
Phil Walker is a long-time gambling industry veteran. He served as UK & Ireland managing director at William Hill, as well as its online managing director and chief commercial officer. He has also held roles at evoke and City Gaming, according to Better Retailing.
Walker said he is "excited and proud to take up the baton." He stressed the importance of building on the lottery's progress and its positive impact on communities. His title is interim CEO, meaning Allwyn could still search for a permanent replacement.
The £450 million investment touched nearly every part of the lottery's operation. Allwyn upgraded technology systems used by 43,500 retail partners — the shops and newsagents that sell tickets across the UK. The website and app were also rebuilt to attract more online players, Head Top Asia reported.
The digital push worked. About 1 million new active users joined the lottery's online platform during Vidler's time. Allwyn says Good Causes — the charities and community projects funded by lottery profits — also benefited from the growth in players and revenue.
Allwyn says the leadership change marks the start of a new chapter, not a retreat. The company has framed Walker's appointment as a move to drive the "next growth phase" of the lottery, according to Asian Trader. The Fourth Licence, awarded to Allwyn in 2022, runs until 2034.
Chair Justin King will work closely with Walker during the handover period. Allwyn has not said when it will name a permanent CEO. For now, Walker and King are focused on continuing the modernisation push Vidler started, Gaming Intelligence noted.
