Lakeland Industries Reports Increased Q1 Revenue But Lower Margins, Focuses on Portfolio Reshaping

Lakeland reported diluted EPS of $0.04 for Q1 FY27, improving from $(0.41) in the year-ago quarter.
The company sold its High Performance and High Visibility lines on March 27, 2026, and will manufacture inventory for the buyer for six months following the sale.
In Fire Services, Lakeland said sales grew 11%; adjusted EBITDA (excluding FX) rose to $1.1 million, and adjusted gross margin edged up to 33.6%.
Management attributed industrial stabilization partly to facilities operating at capacity, citing Vietnam and China as key examples.
Lakeland said it operates 10 manufacturing sites across eight countries, supporting supply-chain resilience and a global service footprint.
Lakeland Industries returned to profit in its first quarter of fiscal 2027, posting net income of $0.37 million on revenue of $47.4 million — up 1.4% from a year ago — after a brutal stretch that included a $16 million quarterly loss last December Yahoo Finance. The company, now branded Lakeland Fire + Safety, also set a bold long-term target: $50 million to $60 million in recurring revenue from fire gear decontamination and repair services Seeking Alpha.
Fire Services grew 11% year over year and now makes up 49% of total revenue, generating $23.4 million in Q1 Yahoo Finance. That is up sharply from 38% of revenue just one year ago. CEO Jim Jenkins said the results show the strategy is working, calling Q1 "continued progress" toward positioning the company "for stronger performance through the balance of fiscal 2027."
A key growth driver is Lakeland's new NFPA 1970:2025 certified fire portfolio. In April 2026, the company's FireFlex Elite L-100 boot earned that certification, completing a full head-to-toe lineup Seeking Alpha. As fire departments upgrade to new safety standards, Lakeland expects to win more contracts in the second half of the fiscal year.
On March 27, 2026, Lakeland sold its High Performance and High Visibility product lines to National Safety Apparel for $14 million, booking a $6.5 million gain on the deal Yahoo Finance. NSA's CEO called the acquisition a way to "deliver a broader set of safety solutions." Lakeland will keep making inventory for the buyer for six months after the sale.
To build out its service side, Lakeland acquired Arizona PPE Recon and California PPE Recon in September 2025 for a combined $9.5 million Seeking Alpha. These companies provide UL-certified decontamination and repair for fire gear — a recurring-revenue business that management sees as the engine behind the $50M–$60M service goal. A new site in Denver and expanded capacity in Phoenix are planned next.
Gross margin slipped to 31.4% in Q1, down from prior levels, as higher labor, rent, and certification costs offset savings on raw materials Yahoo Finance. The company's effective tax rate hit 78.5% due to a valuation allowance against U.S. deferred tax assets — a sign analysts flagged as financial fragility. Diluted earnings per share came in at $0.04, compared to a loss of $0.41 a year earlier.
Analysts at D.A. Davidson and Lake Street kept a Neutral rating on the stock Seeking Alpha. They questioned whether labor and rent cost increases could be controlled. The stock traded near $9.54 after results, well below its 52-week high of $19.77. CFO J. Calven Swinea pointed to positives: inventory fell by $4.8 million and operating expenses dropped $1.1 million year over year.
Lakeland faces two legal headwinds. First, PFAS-related lawsuits tied to firefighting gear. Second, a newly filed securities class action seeking unspecified damages Seeking Alpha. These legal overhangs add risk to an already tight balance sheet. The company held $17.4 million in cash at quarter end, with $23.8 million still available on its revolving credit line.
Management operates 10 manufacturing sites across eight countries, including Vietnam and China, which it says provides supply chain resilience against tariffs Yahoo Finance. The company targets high single-digit revenue growth for full fiscal 2027. Q2 results, expected in September 2026, will show whether Lakeland can convert its "record" fire backlog into the revenue needed to hit its annual goals.
