Former television news anchor crowned king of Uganda's Tooro Kingdom following disputed succession.

Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, a former television news anchor and editor, has been crowned king of Uganda's Tooro Kingdom after a disputed succession following the death of his cousin, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV. Kijanaangoma became the 13th monarch of the Batooro people and adopted the royal name Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I. The death of Oyo Nimba sparked a dispute over who should inherit the throne, with the late king's mother claiming he left behind a young son and a will naming him as his heir. Despite objections from the late King’s mother, Best Kemigisa, and sister, Princess Ruth Komuntale, Kijannangoma was selected by a 21-member committee from the royal Babiito clan. The coronation was steeped in Tooro tradition and included a mock battle for the crown.
