WNBA All-Star Weekend Coming to Bay Area in 2027, Hosted by Golden State Valkyries

The Golden State Valkyries will host the 2027 WNBA All-Star Game at Chase Center in San Francisco, WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert announced alongside the team, according to Mercury News. It marks the first time the league's marquee midsummer event comes to the Bay Area.
The Bay Area is becoming a major sports destination. San Francisco already hosted the Super Bowl in February 2025 and will hold the FIFA World Cup in the summer of 2026, according to AJC. The 2027 WNBA All-Star weekend adds another landmark event to that growing list.
Chase Center, home of the NBA's Golden State Warriors, is no stranger to big events. The arena hosted the 2025 NBA All-Star Game and is set to host the men's NCAA Tournament West Regional in 2028, according to WBAL. Adding the WNBA All-Star Game in 2027 cements its status as one of the top sports venues in the country.
The Golden State Valkyries are a first-year WNBA franchise in 2025. Earning the right to host All-Star weekend in just their third year is a sign of the league's confidence in the team and the Bay Area market, according to East Bay Times.
The All-Star Game itself is just one part of the weekend. The Shooting Stars competition and the 3-point contest are scheduled for July 30, according to Press Democrat. Both events will take place at Chase Center before the main game the following day.
Off the court, San Francisco will also host the sixth annual WNBA Live convention at Moscone Center. WNBA Live is a fan festival that features player appearances, interactive events, and league exhibits. It has grown into a major gathering for women's basketball fans each year.
Commissioner Cathy Engelbert made the announcement alongside Valkyries leadership. The WNBA has been expanding rapidly, adding new teams and drawing record attendance in recent seasons. Bringing All-Star weekend to a new market like San Francisco fits that growth strategy, according to AJC.
San Francisco has hosted three massive sporting events in a span of roughly two years — the Super Bowl, the World Cup, and now the WNBA All-Star Game. That run puts the Bay Area in a small group of cities capable of handling the biggest events in American sports, according to Mercury News.
The league says additional details about the 2027 All-Star weekend will be released in the coming months, according to WBAL. That includes specifics on ticket sales, event schedules, and any additional programming tied to the weekend.
For now, the Valkyries and Chase Center have secured one of women's basketball's biggest spotlights for the summer of 2027. Fans in the Bay Area will have a full weekend of top WNBA talent on their home court.
