NIO Reports August Delivery Growth While Shares Hit New Lows

ONVO delivered 8,810 vehicles in August, down 46.39% year-on-year, and its share of NIO's total monthly deliveries fell to about 24.6% from roughly 52.5% a year earlier.
Analysts are looking for a much smaller Q2 loss of about $0.05 per share with revenue near $4.95 billion, ahead of NIO's Q2 earnings release.
Hong Kong-listed shares fell about 10.8% to HK$29.60 and NYSE-listed shares dropped about 8.8% in after-hours trading following the August delivery release.
NIO stock traded around $4.23, marking a new 52-week low and sitting about 47% below its June 2026 high of $8.02.
CEO William Li has indicated ONVO plans to add two to three new models in the $21,000–$29,000 price range, with ONVO expected to become the majority contributor to group sales over time.
NIO delivered 35,836 vehicles in August 2026, up 14.5% year over year, as its namesake brand surged and the company pushed deeper into mass-market segments TipRanks. The company's multi-brand strategy showed mixed results: NIO brand deliveries hit 21,174 units, ONVO fell to 8,810 units (down 46.4% annually), and FIREFLY contributed 5,852 units CNEVpost. On the infrastructure front, NIO opened its 4,000th battery swap station on August 7, the first fifth-generation model, marking a major milestone in its charging ecosystem.
The market reaction was skeptical. Hong Kong-listed shares fell 10.8% to HK$29.60, while NYSE shares dropped 8.8% in after-hours trading TipRanks. NIO stock now sits at a 52-week low near $4.23, roughly 47% below its June 2026 peak of $8.02.
The flagship NIO brand delivered 21,174 vehicles in August, nearly doubling compared to last year CNEVpost. The refreshed All-New ES8 hit 10,999 units, up 6.91% from July's 10,288 units. Since its launch 335 days earlier, the ES8 had surpassed 140,000 cumulative deliveries, cementing NIO's leadership in China's premium electric SUV market CNEVpost.
ONVO, NIO's mass-market sub-brand, posted 8,810 deliveries in August despite launching two new models in the $21,000–$29,000 price range Electric Vehicles. The decline of 46.4% year-on-year signals a steep pullback from a year ago, when ONVO accounted for roughly 52.5% of group sales. CEO William Li plans to add two to three more models to ONVO's lineup, positioning the brand to eventually become the majority sales contributor.
Through August, NIO's year-to-date shipments reached 262,893 vehicles, up 57.9% from the same period in 2025 TipRanks. Cumulative multi-brand deliveries across all NIO entities have now surpassed 1,260,485 units. This growth trajectory positions NIO ahead of many global EV rivals despite ONVO's recent struggles and mounting competition in China's crowded electric vehicle market.
NIO's battery swap infrastructure reached a landmark 4,000 stations on August 7, with the first fifth-generation station now operational TipRanks. The new station integrates FIREFLY vehicles into NIO's Power network, enabling cross-brand battery swap support. This move strengthens NIO's competitive moat in premium EV charging and appeals to fleet operators seeking faster refueling than traditional charging.
Wall Street analysts anticipate NIO will post a much smaller Q2 loss of roughly $0.05 per share with revenue near $4.95 billion TipRanks. The consensus rating remains Buy, with a Hong Kong dollar target of HK$58, though recent stock declines have widened the gap between current price and analyst targets. Investors are waiting for the company's Q2 earnings release to assess whether margin improvements and the multi-brand growth strategy can justify current valuations.
