Saber Interactive Unveils Turok: Origins, a Co-op Sci-Fi Shooter Launching Fall 2026

Saber Interactive's pedigree includes Space Marine 2 and Toxic Commando, which suggests Turok: Origins' revival may lean toward fast-paced co-op sci-fi action, given the studio's track record.
Nightdive Studios' remasters of the original Turok trilogy are credited with keeping the franchise alive and provide context for Saber Interactive's revival approach.
Switch 2 version may not look as polished as the latest trailer, signaling possible performance differences on the newer console.
Early hands-on previews from DayOne describe Turok: Origins as a solid, competent co-op shooter with fun mechanics, even if it doesn't reinvent the genre.
Saber Interactive has released a new gameplay trailer for Turok: Origins, confirming a Fall 2026 launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam. The trailer is the most detailed look yet at the co-op dinosaur shooter, showing off fast combat, a grapple hook, and a toggle between first- and third-person views. WccfTech noted the trailer still lacks a specific release date, with a Late Q3 or Q4 2026 window — roughly September to October — now the working target.
The revival marks the franchise's biggest moment since the 2008 Propaganda Games reboot. Saber — the studio behind Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 — is pitching Turok: Origins as a three-player online co-op shooter built around horde-style, player-vs-environment combat. Up to three players fight dinosaurs and an alien threat across a world called the Lost Lands.
Players choose from three character classes: Bison, a tank; Cougar, a skirmisher; and Raven, a scout. Each class has unique skills powered by a resource called Echoes. A built-in scanner lets players find enemy weak points before attacking. Invision Community reported that the game supports both solo play and online co-op with up to three players.
Killing major bosses unlocks a mechanic called DNA Extraction. Players use that DNA to power EchoSync upgrades — essentially suit evolutions that change how your character looks and fights. Game designer Carlos De María Castillo said the system was designed to "visually and mechanically evolve the player alongside their prehistoric prey." The upgrade path gives the game a light progression loop on top of its shooter foundation.
Saber Interactive built its reputation on high-energy co-op games. Space Marine 2 was a major commercial hit. John Carpenter's Toxic Commando followed a similar horde-fighting formula. That track record is why Saber landed the Turok revival, and it directly shapes what Turok: Origins is. The game is not a lone-wolf shooter. It is a team-based, wave-clearing experience with dinosaurs as the enemy.
The franchise has been dormant for nearly two decades. Nightdive Studios kept it alive with HD remasters of the original Nintendo 64 trilogy between 2015 and 2019. Those remasters proved fans still wanted dinosaur shooters. Saber is now betting that same audience will embrace a modern co-op take. Go Nintendo confirmed Saber and Universal Products and Experiences are co-publishing the title.
The new trailer looks sharp, but analysts warn the footage likely represents the PC and PS5 versions. Nintendo Life flagged that Switch 2 performance "may vary," pointing to possible lower resolution or frame rate on Nintendo's newer hardware. Pure Xbox reported that Xbox Series X targets 60 frames per second, while Xbox Series S is capped at 30. The Switch 2 window is listed as Autumn 2026, which could mean a slightly later ship date than the other platforms.
Press who saw an early build at Gamescom 2025 described the game as "competent" but "standard shooter fare." WccfTech's Alessio Palumbo said the grapple hook adds useful verticality, but noted the "soul of the original boomer shooter feels diluted" by the co-op focus. DayOne previews called the game a solid, fun co-op experience — just not one that reinvents the genre.
Fan reaction online is split. Long-time Turok players miss the tension of being a lone hunter in a foggy, dangerous world. Younger players are comparing it favorably to Helldivers 2 and Exoprimal, praising the dinosaur visuals and the suit upgrade system. The game was first announced at The Game Awards on December 13, 2024, and has been building momentum through Nintendo Partner Direct appearances and Summer Game Fest demos in 2026. Gaming on Linux confirmed the Fall 2026 Steam release is still on track.
