Zimmerman arrived at the Sandia Resort amphitheater that afternoon appearing intoxicated, according to ABQ RAW. During soundcheck, staff witnessed him stumbling, falling, and throwing stage equipment — including microphones and cymbals — on stage.
The erratic behavior continued off stage. Country Central reported that Zimmerman allegedly spat toward a security officer after an argument over his transport vehicle — he wanted a black SUV, not a white one. That evening, he canceled the show, posting on Instagram that he was "not feeling well" and "not able to give you all the show you deserve."
Hotel Room Left with $16,000 in Destruction
Resort management asked Zimmerman to leave after the cancellation. He initially refused but was eventually escorted off the property by Sandia Police, according to Whiskey Riff. The next morning, housekeeping found the room in ruins.
The damage included two broken chairs, a smashed phone, multiple holes punched in the walls, and a ruined TV. ABQ RAW also reported allegations that Zimmerman burned members of his own entourage with cigarettes during the incident. A second tour date — at Graton Resort in Rohnert Park, California, on May 30 — was also canceled, again blamed on illness.
Felony Charge Carries Up to 18 Months in Prison
Under New Mexico law, criminal damage to property worth more than $1,000 is a fourth-degree felony. That charge carries up to 18 months in prison and a $5,000 fine. With $16,000 in damage alleged, prosecutors had a strong basis to file, legal experts told Country Central.
An arrest warrant is now active. Prosecutors filed after repeated failed attempts to reach Zimmerman's team, according to Country Now. As of June 22, Zimmerman had not issued any statement about the charges. His label, Warner Music Nashville, had not responded to media inquiries from Billboard.
A Pattern of Alcohol Trouble Before New Mexico
This is not Zimmerman's first public struggle with alcohol. In August 2025, he publicly apologized for his behavior at Luke Bryan's "Crash My Playa" event, admitting he had "been drinking too much that day," according to Wide Open Country.
Industry observers say the Albuquerque incident is harder to dismiss. Whiskey Riff noted the sharp contrast between Zimmerman's "heartfelt" Instagram post blaming illness and the "ugly" details laid out in court documents. Venues on his "Different Night Same Rodeo" tour may now trigger morality clauses in their contracts, putting the rest of his 2026 schedule at serious risk.
