Detroit Red Wings Unveil 2026-27 Schedule, Highlighted by Centennial Game and 42 Home Dates.

Detroit will play 42 home games this season, the first time the franchise has reached that total.
Opening night on Oct. 2 vs. the New York Rangers at Little Caesars Arena starts a four-game season-opening homestand.
December 22 against Toronto (7:30 p.m.) could be Detroit fans’ first chance to see Gavin McKenna, the No. 1 pick.
January 2 against Edmonton (1 p.m.) at Little Caesars Arena will be the lone LCA appearance by Connor McDavid, with Mike Babcock returning to Detroit as Oilers coach.
The Detroit Red Wings have released their 2026-27 schedule, and it comes with a historic twist. The team will play 84 regular-season games — including 42 at home — the first time in franchise history they have reached that home-game total, according to Detroit News.
The season opens Oct. 2 against the New York Rangers at Little Caesars Arena. A centennial celebration game against the Boston Bruins on Nov. 18 will mark 100 years since Detroit played its very first NHL game.
Detroit's schedule is loaded up front. Seven of the team's first eight games will be played at Little Caesars Arena. The season-opening homestand runs four games, starting with the Rangers on Oct. 2, Detroit News reported.
Four preseason games are also on the books. Television coverage will air on Detroit SportsNet. The front-loaded home schedule gives fans plenty of early action before the grind of winter road trips.
The marquee date on the schedule is Nov. 18. On that night, the Red Wings host the Boston Bruins in a Centennial Celebration game. It marks exactly 100 years since Detroit played its first NHL game on Nov. 18, 1926, according to Detroit News.
The centennial is a rare milestone. Only a handful of NHL franchises have reached 100 years of play. Detroit will mark the occasion at home, giving its fanbase a front-row seat to franchise history.
Dec. 22 brings Toronto to Detroit at 7:30 p.m. That game could be the first chance for Wings fans to see Gavin McKenna, the No. 1 overall pick, in person. McKenna is expected to suit up for the Maple Leafs.
On Jan. 2 at 1 p.m., Edmonton visits Little Caesars Arena. It will be the only home appearance by Oilers star Connor McDavid. There is an added storyline: Mike Babcock, who coached Detroit for years, returns to the bench — this time as the Oilers head coach, Detroit News noted.
The jump to 84 games adds two extra dates to the usual 82-game NHL season. With 42 of those at home, Detroit fans get more hockey than ever before at Little Caesars Arena. The franchise has never played that many home games in a single regular season.
The expanded schedule, the centennial game, and the star-studded visitor list make 2026-27 one of the most anticipated seasons in recent Red Wings history. Season tickets and broadcast details are confirmed, with games airing on Detroit SportsNet.
