Himachal Pradesh Issues Weather Alerts as Heavy Rain Approaches for Late September

Himachal Pradesh is forecast to receive rain from September 26 to 29 as a weather system approaches northwest India, following a week of mostly sunny weather and weak monsoon activity. Rain is expected to be heaviest on September 27 and 28, with Sirmaur, Solan, Shimla and Mandi among the districts at risk of heavy downpours; most other areas may see light to moderate rain. The IMD has issued orange and yellow alerts for some districts and warned of possible thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in parts of the state. Officials have shared advisories with the state government and relevant agencies to prepare for the conditions.
The monsoon was reported to be 13% below normal in Himachal Pradesh, adding context to the forecast after a week of weak activity.
The IMD forecast light rain at isolated places on September 24, 25 and 29, and at a few places on September 26–28; it also expected no significant change in maximum temperatures for three to four days, followed by a 2–3°C dip across many parts of the state.
The thunderstorm, lightning and gusty-wind alert was specified for Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur on September 26, then for Bilaspur, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur and Kinnaur on September 27.
Before the forecast rain, temperatures were above normal in several locations, including Shimla, Bhuntar, Dharamshala, Kalpa, Manali, Nahan and Mandi; Una recorded a maximum of 34°C on Wednesday.
