Chief Myron Demkiw and TPA President Clayton Campbell arrived at Sunnybrook by 9:00 a.m. to meet with the injured officer's family, CP24 reported. Mayor Olivia Chow arrived at the hospital shortly after 9:50 a.m. to offer support. The Toronto Police Association represents roughly 8,500 members across the service.

In February 2024, another officer-involved shooting occurred in a nearby park following reports of a man with a knife. A fatal shooting also took place at a local plaza in September 2024.
