Delta Airlines Expands European Network While Ending Select Domestic Routes

Delta plans to expand its European network for summer 2027 with seasonal Boston–Venice and Detroit–Athens flights, as well as Austin–Paris service. The airline will end its seasonal Seattle–Philadelphia nonstop route after its final flights in November, citing customer demand; Alaska and American will continue to serve the route. Delta plans to launch daily Philadelphia–Los Angeles flights in June 2027 and expand Seattle–Los Angeles service. It is also scheduled to end its daily New York JFK–Dallas/Fort Worth route in early January 2027, after years of reduced service amid competition from American Airlines.
Delta’s Boston–Venice service is scheduled to begin May 7 with up to four weekly flights through October 29, operated by an Airbus A330-300. It will be Delta’s 13th long-haul destination from Boston.
Delta’s Detroit–Athens route will be the first nonstop service between Detroit and Greece, according to the article.
Delta carried nearly 1.9 million passengers through Philadelphia last year, making it the airport’s third-largest airline by passenger volume; American carried more than 20 million, about 70% of the airport’s total.
Delta’s Seattle–Philadelphia service was introduced as a highly requested destination among the airline’s Seattle corporate customers. Meanwhile, Delta plans to increase Seattle–Los Angeles service to eight daily flights beginning July 11, up from its usual five to seven.
Delta’s JFK–DFW route has operated in two stretches: from 1991 to 2004 and again from 2007 onward. The article says it had fallen from three daily flights in 2019 to ten weekly departures last year, amid competition from American, which serves the route with as many as six daily flights.
