Godzilla Minus Zero Behind-the-Scenes Teaser Released Ahead of Fall Premiere

GKIDS, acquired by Toho in 2024, serves as the North American distributor and is positioned as the North American home of Studio Ghibli, representing filmmakers including Makoto Shinkai, Satoshi Kon, Tomm Moore, and Mamoru Hosoda.
Japan’s release is scheduled for November 3, 2026, aligning with Godzilla Day and underscoring a global rollout tied to a key anniversary date for the franchise.
The new teaser imagery suggests cross-border reach, with visuals including Godzilla near the Statue of Liberty, hinting at potential New York settings or impact beyond Japan.
Director-writer-VFX supervisor Takashi Yamazaki is quoted in behind-the-scenes material saying, "I believe this team can create something greater than the last film," signaling a push to surpass Godzilla Minus One.
The behind-the-scenes teaser includes a tagline that conveys high stakes for the installment: "There is no third time. Everything ends here."
Toho and GKIDS have released behind-the-scenes footage for Godzilla Minus Zero, the eagerly awaited sequel to 2023's Godzilla Minus One. Director Takashi Yamazaki returns to write, direct, and oversee visual effects for the film, which is set in 1949 and will premiere at the 64th New York Film Festival on September 26 before hitting theaters in Japan on November 3 and North America on November 6.
The production marks a historic milestone: it's the first Japanese film shot entirely for IMAX. Bloody Disgusting reports that Yamazaki said, "I believe this team can create something greater than the last film," signaling ambitions to surpass the original's critical and commercial success.
