Canadian Tourist Rescued From Sinking Yacht in Remote Indian Ocean

A Canadian tourist was rescued by Australian rescuers after his yacht was partially submerged in a remote part of the Indian Ocean. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) reported that the man was travelling from Darwin, Australia, to the Australian territory of Christmas Island, south of Jakarta, Indonesia. He twice failed to check in with family in Canada and his brother contacted authorities in Australia. The catamaran was found partially submerged 1,000 kilometres east-southeast of Christmas island, and an air rescue helicopter dropped life-saving supplies, including a life raft and emergency beacon, and food and water. The sailor was later brought aboard a Royal Australian Navy helicopter. He is reportedly in good condition and will be returned to Darwin.
