Dubai International Airport Prepares for 3 Million Travelers During July Peak

The summer travel surge is set to begin on July 2 as UAE residents start their holidays, with school holidays beginning around July 3; the peak day is forecast for July 12, when more than 225,000 travelers are expected.
The I Heart DXB installation is located in Terminal 3, Concourse B near Gates B28, inviting departing and transit travelers to upload selfies to a growing digital mosaic in the colors of the UAE flag, and is complemented by a wall of handwritten notes with rewards, souvenirs and exclusive offers from participating shops.
For families with children, Smart Gates are available to speed passport control for travellers aged 12 and over, adding a faster route through security for eligible passengers.
Travelers were reminded that last year there were additional restrictions on carrying power banks to improve safety after incidents where such devices caught fire.
Dubai International Airport (DXB) is bracing for roughly 3 million travelers in the first half of July, ARN News Centre reports, with daily traffic set to stay above 200,000 throughout the peak. The busiest single day is forecast for July 12, when more than 225,000 passengers are expected to move through the terminals in 24 hours.
About half of all travelers will be transfer passengers, cementing DXB's role as one of the world's top transit hubs. The surge follows one of the most disruptive periods in the airport's history, making this summer a critical test of its recovery.
The peak begins July 2, when UAE residents start their holidays, Connecting Travel notes. School holidays kick off around July 3, adding a first major weekend rush from July 3 to 5. Traffic then builds to its highest point on July 12, with over 225,000 travelers in a single day.
This rebound is striking given the context. Earlier in 2026, a regional conflict caused passenger numbers to crash to just 2.5 million for the entire month of March. CEO Paul Griffiths described the recent months as "unprecedented for any major airport hub." Getting to 3 million in just 15 days in July shows how fast demand has snapped back.
Dubai Airports and its oneDXB partners — including dnata, Dubai Police, and Dubai Customs — have activated a summer readiness plan, Travel and Tour World reports. Travelers are urged to check in online, arrive three hours before departure, and use Smart Gates for faster passport control. Smart Gates are open to passengers aged 12 and over.
Emirates passengers have extra options. They can check in at home, at city check-in counters, or at self-service kiosks. Economy Middle East notes the airline is warning customers of high departure volumes from Terminal 3, especially during the first peak weekend of July 3 to 5.
Regulators have hardened rules on lithium batteries this summer. Passenger devices wrongly packed in checked luggage rose 91% globally in 2025. DXB is now enforcing a strict rule: spare batteries and power banks must go in carry-on bags only. Putting them in checked luggage is no longer allowed.
The reason is fire risk. Lithium batteries can overheat — a process called thermal runaway — and a fire in a cargo hold is far harder to control than one in the cabin. Travelers are also told to check destination rules and travel documents before arriving, and to track their gate using DXB Express Maps, available via QR codes on flight information screens.
DXB is rolling out dedicated support for People of Determination during the peak. This includes trained staff, dedicated routes through the terminals, and an Assisted Travel Lounge in Terminal 2. The lounge features a decompression zone for autistic travelers and noise-reducing seating — part of the airport's push toward becoming the world's most inclusive hub by 2035.
In Terminal 3, Concourse B near Gate B28, the I Heart DXB installation offers a lighter touch. Departing and transit travelers can upload selfies to a growing digital mosaic in the colors of the UAE flag. A wall of handwritten messages sits alongside it, ARN News Centre reports, with rewards, souvenirs, and exclusive offers from participating shops for those who take part.
