Fossil Group to Close 15 More Stores in 2026 as E-Commerce Grows

Fossil Group is closing 15 stores across the United States in 2026 as shoppers move away from mall retail, according to USA Today. The watch and accessories brand already shut seven locations in the second quarter of this year, and if more closures follow, Fossil will operate just 185 stores globally by year's end.
The closures are part of a dramatic pullback that has seen Fossil shutter more than 100 stores since 2024, according to IndyStar. The company currently runs around 200 U.S. locations, making the latest round of cuts a significant shrink in its physical footprint.
Fossil CEO Franco Fogliato has made digital sales a top priority. He said investing in the company's e-commerce platforms is one of its main goals going forward. The strategy reflects a broader shift in how shoppers buy watches and accessories — fewer people are making the trip to a mall kiosk or store.
E-commerce has steadily eaten into traditional retail sales across the industry. Fossil's move to shrink its store count while growing online is a bet that the brand can survive — and even thrive — without a large physical presence, according to Palm Beach Post.
Fossil's retreat from physical retail did not start this year. The company has closed more than 100 stores since 2024, according to Oklahoma. That pace of closure suggests the brand is rethinking its entire approach to where and how it sells its products.
The seven stores already closed in Q2 of 2026 show the plan is moving fast. With 15 total closures targeted for the year, the brand is on track to shed roughly 7% of its U.S. store count in 2026 alone, according to Courier-Journal.
Mall traffic has fallen as online shopping becomes the go-to option for most Americans. Fossil is far from the only brand feeling the pressure — retailers across the country have cut store counts as foot traffic shrinks, according to North Jersey.
There is one bright spot for malls. Younger shoppers — Gen Z in particular — have shown a growing interest in visiting physical stores for clothing and accessories. Whether that trend is strong enough to reverse the broader decline remains unclear, according to Free Press.
For shoppers who rely on a nearby Fossil store for watch repairs, battery replacements, or in-person purchases, the closures could mean a longer drive or a shift to buying online. The brand has not released a list of which specific locations will close in the second half of 2026, according to Herald Tribune.
If all 15 planned closures go through, Fossil's global store count will drop to 185. That is down sharply from where the brand stood just a few years ago, reflecting just how quickly the retail landscape has changed, according to Providence Journal.
