IBM Unveils AI-Powered Power11 Servers and Autonomous Operations to Transform IT Efficiency

IBM Power Autonomous Operations claims capacity constraints can be identified and resolved up to 15 times faster than manual operations, based on internal testing across 11 IBM Power systems (52.59 minutes manual vs 3.33 minutes automated).
The S1112 is described as a one-socket Power11 server optimized for edge and space-constrained deployments, capable of running AI workloads locally with built-in AI acceleration and support for AIX, IBM i, and Linux, plus up to 69% greater energy efficiency versus the S914.
IBM’s Spyre Accelerator for AI inference is slated to be available in Q4 2025, with broader Red Hat OpenShift AI integration planned to enhance hybrid-cloud AI workflows.
IBM is targeting an uptime of 99.9999% (roughly 31 seconds of downtime per year) with Power Autonomous Operations, alongside a claimed up to 55% improvement in performance per watt over prior generations.
Power9 end-of-standard-service is dated January 31, 2026, signaling a clear upgrade path to Power11, with the S1112’s general availability anticipated around July 2026.
IBM has launched Power Autonomous Operations, an AI agent designed to monitor and fix problems on Power servers without human help. According to IBM Newsroom, the system can resolve capacity issues up to 15 times faster than manual work — cutting resolution time from 52 minutes down to just over 3 minutes.
The announcement also includes a new compact server, the S1112, and a developer tool package for IBM i. Together, they push IBM's Power platform toward self-managing infrastructure and away from planned downtime, Crypto Briefing reported.
Power Autonomous Operations is an AI agent that watches IBM Power systems around the clock. It spots problems and fixes them on its own — no IT staff required. IBM Newsroom says IBM is targeting 99.9999% uptime with this tool. That works out to roughly 31 seconds of unplanned downtime per year.
IBM tested the system across 11 Power servers. Manual fixes took an average of 52.59 minutes. The AI agent did the same work in 3.33 minutes. The tool also handles patching and maintenance without planned downtime windows, according to TipRanks.
The S1112 is a one-socket, 2U server built for tight spaces and edge locations — think factory floors or retail back offices. It runs AI workloads locally without needing a connection to a big data center. It supports AIX, IBM i, and Linux on the same machine, Crypto Briefing reported.
IBM claims the S1112 delivers up to 69% better energy efficiency compared to the older S914 server. The full Power11 lineup promises up to 55% improvement in performance per watt over prior generations. General availability for the S1112 is expected around July 2026, per Yahoo Tech.
IBM also launched the Bob Premium Package for IBM i. It is aimed at helping developers build modern apps faster. Early users said it sped up onboarding for new developers. The package uses built-in conventions to cut setup time and reduce guesswork, according to IBM Newsroom.
IBM has set January 31, 2026 as the end-of-standard-service date for Power9. That gives Power9 customers less than a year to upgrade to Power11. IBM's Spyre Accelerator for AI inference is also coming, with availability planned for Q4 2025, Yahoo Tech noted.
Not all the news around IBM is good. Law firm Ademi LLP has launched a securities fraud investigation into the company. The probe targets statements IBM made about its financial results and business updates. No charges have been filed yet, but the investigation adds legal uncertainty to the product launch week, per Crypto Briefing.
