Hersheypark Opening Day Sees 55 Charged After Massive Fights Prompt Security Boost
A massive brawl on the opening day of Hersheypark left 55 people facing criminal charges, according to FOX43 News. The fights broke out on April 3, 2026, inside the Pennsylvania amusement park, involving dozens of teenagers as young as 12 years old.
The Derry Township Police Department announced the charges on June 8, nearly two months after the incident. Of the 55 charged, 52 are juveniles and 3 are adults. Charges include simple assault, aggravated assault, riot, conspiracy, theft, and failure to disperse, WSBTV reported.
Brawl Erupts as Season Opens at Hersheypark
At around 6:50 PM on April 3, officers were called to the park after reports of large groups fighting inside, according to WOKV. Pennsylvania State Police and nearby departments rushed in to help. Bystander footage showed teens chasing each other through the park and guests hiding under tables.
Only three people — two juveniles and one adult — were arrested on the spot. The three adult defendants charged after the full investigation are Omar Ibraham, 19, Jerome Ross III, 18, and Quaneek Williams, 18, all from Harrisburg, PA, KIRO7 reported. The remaining 52 defendants range in age from 12 to 17.
Park Rolls Out Photo ID Checks After the Fight
Hersheypark moved fast to tighten security after April 3. On April 20, the park replaced its old hand-stamp re-entry system with a digital photo verification check. Guests leaving the park now must complete a photo comparison before they can return, Boston 25 News reported.
The park also briefly posted signs banning masks for guests under 21. After backlash, Hersheypark clarified the policy only targets non-medical face coverings used to hide identities. Civil liberties groups raised concerns that the photo check policy could violate privacy rights — a debate already playing out in a May 2026 class-action lawsuit against Disney over similar facial recognition technology.
Social Media Linked to Wave of Teen Takeover Events
The Hersheypark brawl is part of a wider 2026 trend. Investigators say groups of teens are organizing flash-mob style disruptions through TikTok and Instagram, using AI-made flyers to spread the word, according to WHIO. Similar incidents have hit ICON Park in Orlando and Six Flags St. Louis this year.

Security analysts say traditional park staff are not built to handle coordinated flash-mob fights. Pinkerton security experts have called human behavior the biggest threat to theme park safety in 2026.
